Scholars Program

The AAPM Scholars Program fosters tomorrow’s leaders in pain medicine.

Once accepted to the program, fellows will be invited to participate in cadaver-based workshops to learn surgical skills and best practice techniques for placing implantable devices.

Sponsored By:

The AAPM Scholars Program fosters tomorrow’s leaders in pain medicine. The program engages the trainees in a comprehensive educational series that includes rigorous didactics and hands-on cadaveric training. This program combines best practice procedural techniques with an evidence-based approach to pain care, rigorous risk stratification, and patient selection as the keys to long-term success, developing strong surgical skills, and preventing and managing complications.

On a more personal level, the AAPM Scholars Program emphasizes mentorship with experienced faculty and discusses key topics aimed at knowledge expansion and professional development of these future leaders. Ultimately, the AAPM Scholars Program provides a unique opportunity to build lasting relationships with peers and serves as a springboard for greater involvement within AAPM and the greater pain medicine community.

The AAPM Scholars Program has been designed to address some of the greatest needs of pain fellowship training programs: “too much to teach and not enough time.” Many programs cannot provide adequate exposure to these advanced therapies, and fellows do not develop a deep appreciation for the factors needed for long-term success. What sets our program apart from other courses is an emphasis on the increased hands-on time and a solid appreciation of the evidence behind the procedures/skills being proctored.
