More than 600 attendees gathered at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort in sunny Fort Lauderdale, FL, for the AAPM 39th Annual Meeting held from March 23-26, 2023. 

The event featured unique “mega sessions”, flash talks, poster presentations, committee and shared interest group gatherings, and keynote speeches from renowned pain medicine experts including:

  • Helene M. Langevin, MD, director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) at the National Institute of Health (NIH) 
  • Sean Mackey, MD, PhD, Redlich Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, Neurosciences and Neurology at Stanford University
  • Yele Aluko MD, MBA, FACC, FSCAI, Americas Chief Medical Officer Ernst & Young/ EY Center for Health Equity Leader

Kayode Williams, MD, immediate past president of AAPM, says, “The impressive turnout at this year’s annual meeting has left me both humbled and thrilled, and I am eagerly anticipating what the future holds for our organization as we continue to play a role in shaping the future of pain medicine innovation for patients, providers, payers, and partners.”

Farshad Ahadian, MD, president of AAPM, adds, “I am honored to take on the role of president for AAPM, where innovation, advocacy, fellowship, research, and patient care are paramount. I am committed to advancing our organization’s mission, supporting our members as they further their careers, and working collaboratively with members to drive progress, elevate our collective standards of care, and positively impact patients’ quality of life.”

This year also included the 2nd Annual AAPM and MIT Hacking Medicine Innovation Challenge presented by Abbott and Saluda Medical.

During the challenge, eight finalists from more than 40+ entries were selected to compete in a shark-tank style pitch competition for the chance to win in-kind prizes, including advising and mentorship from AAPM leaders and a feature on the SiriusXM Radio show Aches and Gains with Dr. Paul Christo, which includes an audience of nearly 300,000 listeners weekly.
