AAPM members are invited to nominate fellow members for our monthly AAPM Member Focus feature by filling out the form found here. Below is this month’s focus member.

This month, AAPM is proud to spotlight our November Member Focus Dr. Gemayel Lee, MD, a board-certified anesthesiologist, fellowship-trained pain specialist, and Director-at-Large on AAPM’s Board of Directors. As both a clinician and leader, Dr. Lee exemplifies a commitment to advancing multidisciplinary, patient-centered pain care.
Dr. Lee is the founder and President of Relive You: Center for Advanced Pain Management, a private interventional practice based in San Diego, CA. His clinical philosophy is rooted in a multimodal approach that integrates cutting-edge therapies, lifestyle medicine, and personalized treatment plans to support the whole patient.

“This passion naturally extends to the complex and challenging disease of chronic pain, which many of us may experience. Successfully treating pain is intellectually stimulating and extremely fulfilling; it can also be incredibly humbling when we struggle to relieve it. Whether providing coaching or consultation, support or minimally invasive surgery, I cherish the many important roles we share in the patient’s journey to explore life beyond pain.”
Dr. Lee earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and completed his internship at Alameda County Medical Center. He then pursued an anesthesiology residency and a Pain Medicine fellowship at the UCSD Center for Pain Medicine, where he trained under internationally recognized faculty and developed expertise in interventional techniques, neuromodulation, regenerative medicine, and medical cannabis.

What first drew him to medicine was equal parts curiosity and compassion:
“For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by scientists and intrigued by the danger associated with mixing the volatile green and purple liquids often seen in their cartoon caricatures. I even dressed as a scientist (Bill Nye) for Halloween in grade school. However, despite my deep interest in biomedical science, my ambition to become a physician was most influenced by my strong compassion for people, a determination to overcome all obstacles in life, and a lifelong goal to improve the health of my community.”

Now, as a member of AAPM’s Board, Dr. Lee brings this same blend of scientific rigor and human-centered care to his leadership. His dedication to innovation and equity continues to shape how pain medicine is practiced and how future generations of clinicians are supported.
We’re honored to feature Dr. Gemayel Lee as this month’s Member Focus, and we look forward to his continued impact as a leader within the AAPM community.
