Dear AAPM Member,
Today is the final opportunity to nominate yourself or an active AAPM member for the 2025 Board of Directors. Nominations will close at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time tonight, November 4, 2024. Serving on the Board offers an opportunity to actively help shape the future of pain medicine through AAPM’s strategic vision and resource allocation.
There are many other ways to get involved with the Academy as well. The Call for Volunteers remains open through November 24, 2024, and we know that through the incredible talents of our members we are able to drive progress in pain medicine. Whether you’re interested in joining a committee, engaging with a Special Interest Group (SIG), or contributing to an ad hoc initiative, we have a place for you!
I’m also delighted to announce our PainConnect 2025 Keynote Speakers. Each speaker will focus on their specific work in basic science which now translates to and connects to new innovative actual and potential treatments for migraine as well as various acute pain and chronic pain conditions.
Our first keynote will be delivered by Professor Peter Goadsby, FMedSci, FRS, on “Bench to Bedside – New Understanding and Better Treatment for Migraine.” Professor Goadsby’s groundbreaking work on CGRP has shaped modern headache treatments, and his continued research explores innovative neuropeptides and neuromodulation.
Our second Keynote Speaker, Dr. Stephen Waxman, MD, PhD, will present “Huxley’s Science Fiction: Ion Channels in Pain, Pain Resilience, and Beyond.” Dr. Waxman is renowned for his work bridging basic research and clinical applications in neurology and has specifically made discoveries regarding the role of sodium channels in painful conditions which may soon lead to new treatments for our patients. He served as the Bridget Flaherty Professor of Neurology at Yale and founded the Neuroscience & Regeneration Research Center.
Registration is now open for PainConnect 2025, and we look forward to connecting with you in Austin, TX, this April.
With Appreciation,
Charles Argoff, MD
AAPM President
