We’re proud to begin the year by spotlighting Dr. Erin Lawson, a double board-certified pain physician, educator, author, and expert reviewer whose thoughtful leadership continues to shape the future of pain medicine.

Dr. Lawson completed her training at Emory University School of Medicine and currently cares for patients living with chronic pain through her clinical practice. She is an active contributor to national pain societies and plays a vital role in advancing the field through scholarship and service. She is the editor of several textbooks on fibromyalgia, painful diabetic neuropathy, and complex regional pain syndrome, conditions that often challenge clinicians and deeply affect patients’ lives.

Currently, Dr. Lawson serves on the expert panel conducting a scoping review of topical analgesics for AAPM and is a question author for the American Board of Anesthesiology’s MOCA Minute, contributing to board certification education for anesthesiologists nationwide.

“I have been blessed with remarkable mentors throughout my training and career, whose example shaped my approach to pain management and impressed upon me the gravity, humility, and responsibility required in this work,” she shares.

Beyond her clinical and academic contributions, Dr. Lawson balances her professional work with her role as a busy mom of four. She and her family love traveling together, whether it’s exploring national parks or venturing abroad to experience new cities and cultures.

AAPM is honored to feature Dr. Erin Lawson as the January 2026 Member Focus, recognizing her commitment to lifelong learning, mentorship, and compassionate care.
