The AAPM Member Focus nominee for December 2024 is Amitabh Gulati, MD.

AAPM is excited to spotlight Dr. Amitabh Gulati as our December Member Focus.

Dr. Amitabh Gulati is a prominent anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician based in New York City, serving as an Associate Professor and Director of Chronic Pain at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He specializes in interventional cancer pain management and employs advanced techniques such as ultrasound-guided procedures and neuromodulation strategies.

Dr. Gulati received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, completed his anesthesiology residency at Emory University, and pursued a pain management fellowship at Weill Cornell in 2007. He’s also certified in acupuncture, enhancing his multidisciplinary approach. Committed to education, he directs the Weill Cornell pain management fellowship, mentoring future specialists.

An active member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) for over a decade, he has chaired the Interventional Pain Medicine Special Interest Group and currently serves as Co-Chair for the 2025 AAPM Annual Meeting. Additionally, he holds leadership roles in other societies, including President of the World Academy of Pain Medicine Ultrasonography.

Dr. Gulati advocates for pain medicine, aiming to improve education and outreach within AAPM and expand the understanding of pain treatment for cancer patients. His contributions reflect a career dedicated to innovation, education, and compassionate care in pain management.
