December 2025 President’s Message: Gratitude and Connection This Season
After a wonderful Thanksgiving with my family and friends, I am writing this as the snow lightly falls outside our New Hampshire log cabin. I hope your holiday was special as well, and I want to express my deep gratitude to our AAPM family for all you do.
At Thanksgiving dinner, despite the predictable eye rolling from the children, we all shared what we are thankful for this year. As we navigate the challenges of caring for aging parents and grandparents, our conversations centered on gratitude for one another and the moments of togetherness that anchor us, even when the world around us can feel out of control. My energy comes from the inspirational people in my life, from my patients, and from each of you.
Recently, one of my patients, a physician, returned to the clinic seeking help with chronic pelvic pain. Amy handed me her memoir, A World Turned Upside Down, a powerful narrative of ambition, mental illness, trauma, chronic pain, and resilience. As I read the preamble and introduction, I fought back tears. I am profoundly proud of her and of so many of my patients who, despite immense suffering, find hope and healing.

From left to write: one of our stellar nurses, Janice, me, my patient, and author Amy, and our super star radiology tech Alicia
“Through mindfulness, acceptance, and healing, Sosne emerges as a devoted mother, educator, and advocate for mental health, women’s rights, and mindfulness.” Her story is a reminder of why our work matters.
As we look toward the future of compassionate, evidence-based, and effective pain care for all patients, we must continue elevating the people who help make that future possible. We need your support to ensure pain medicine fellows, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other non-physician pain champions have the financial resources to attend PainConnect 2026.
This opportunity is often transformative, and your tax-deductible contribution can open the door for a colleague to experience a life-changing and energizing connection with our AAPM community. Donate here.
Thank you for all you do for our patients living with chronic pain. Our community, our advocacy, and our progress exist because of you.
And wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season from my family to yours!
