Acute Low Back Pain Guideline Public Comment

Acute Low Back Pain Public Comment

The Pacific Northwest Evidence-based Practice Center (PNW-EPC) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is partnered with the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) for the development of an evidence-based clinical practice guideline on the assessment and management of acute low back pain. This project is supported by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award [FAIN] totaling $1,999,980.00 with 100 percent funded by FDA/HHS. The contents are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement, by FDA/HHS, or the U.S. Government.

A methodologically rigorous systematic review on assessment and management of acute low back pain (ALBP) was conducted by the PNW-EPC to provide evidence for guideline development. An independent, multidisciplinary guideline development used evidence from the systematic review to formulate evidence-based clinical recommendations to guide the assessment and management of ALBP.

We are seeking public comments on the DRAFT GUIDELINE and DRAFT SYSTEMATIC REVIEW. Links to the documents are below. Please note that these documents are primarily worded for clinicians and healthcare professionals who care for individuals with ALBP. Separate patient-focused resources and materials are under development.

We are seeking comments to enhance the clarity and applicability of the guideline to clinical practice. Comments will be aggregated and reviewed by the EPC team and used to inform the finalization of these documents.

Please provide feedback on the Draft Guideline and Draft Systematic Review using the form. Comments will be shared with the project methodologists and guideline chairs confidentially.

All comments must be received by December 10, 2025, via the online submission form. We are unable to accept comments via uploaded documents or email. We suggest downloading the Word document to complete your comments, saving the file, and pasting the information directly into the form.

Many thanks!
