The American Academy of Pain Medicine Call for Nominations is open from October 4, 2024, through November 4, 2024. Voting AAPM members are invited annually to participate in the nomination and voting process to determine who will fill these topmost leadership positions in the Academy.

The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) invites nominations for open positions on the Board of Directors through the 2025 AAPM Board Nominations process. Nominations are being accepted October 4, 2024 – November 4, 2024. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of pain medicine and contribute to the Academy’s mission by serving in a leadership capacity. If you are not ready for the Board of Directors, the 2025 AAPM Board Nominations process will be followed by the 2025 Call for Volunteers will be open from October 15, 2024, through November 24, 2024. We will accept applications to serve on committees and shared interest group leadership at that time.

Eligibility Requirements and Position Descriptions

President-Elect

The President-Elect serves for one year and then transitions to President and Immediate Past President roles. The candidate must have served as an officer of the Academy for at least two consecutive years. They will step in for the President when needed and help set organizational priorities and strategy. Must be an Active Member.

Vice President for Scientific Affairs

This role oversees educational and research activities. The candidate must have at least two consecutive years of experience as a Director on the Board. The term for Vice President for Scientific Affairs is three years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms. Must be an Active Member.

Director-at-Large

Directors-at-Large play a critical role in guiding the Academy’s strategic plan and initiatives. Each Director-at-Large serves a three-year term and can hold the position for up to two consecutive terms. Must be an Active Member.

Nominating Committee Member

Members of the Nominating Committee are responsible for vetting and interviewing candidates for board positions. The term of office is two years, with an opportunity for renewal based on service performance and Academy needs. Must be an Active Member who has not served on the Board of Directors during the last 3 years.

Expectations for Board Service

  • Commitment to Mission: Promote AAPM’s value and impact in pain medicine.
  • Recruitment: Each Board member is expected to recruit at least five new members annually.
  • Advocacy: Support actions taken by the Board and contribute to meaningful discussion on key issues.
  • Conflict of Interest Compliance: Adhere to the AAPM Conflict of Interest policy and submit annual disclosures.

How to Nominate a Candidate

  1. Download the Nomination Form: Before starting the online nomination, complete the nomination form in Word format to copy and paste into the form for easier submission.
  2. Complete the Online Nomination Form:  Complete the online nomination form with the candidate’s details, qualifications, and a brief statement on why they are an ideal candidate.
  3. Submit Supporting Documents: Ensure all required documents, such as the candidate’s C.V., brief bio, and high-resolution headshot, are included.

Any AAPM member in good standing can nominate a qualified member.

Can I nominate myself?

Yes, self-nominates are welcome.

What happens after I submit a nomination?

The Nominating Committee will review submissions and interview shortlisted candidates between November 7, 2024, and November 23, 2024.

Can I email a nomination on the Word document?

No, nominations will only be accepted via the online form.
