Introducing Hacking Pain – A New Global Innovation Event
This year, the AAPM Innovation Challenge is expanding with a new event, Hacking Pain, in partnership with the US Pain Foundation, The Pain Collaborative, and the American Chronic Pain Association. Taking place April 2–4, 2025, this global hackathon invites innovators across disciplines to collaborate and develop groundbreaking solutions in pain management. Teams will include individuals with Lived Experience, ensuring all solutions consider the patient’s perspective and their experience living with pain.
Winning teams will present their solutions at the AAPM + MIT Hacking Medicine Innovation Challenge Pitch Competition at PainConnect on April 5th. Whether you’re a student, researcher, or seasoned professional, this is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future of pain care. PainConnect, in partnership with Healthcare Innovation Fellows at UT Austin, will provide mentorship, resources, and industry connections to support participating teams. Visit the Innovation Hub to learn more.
New AAPM Clinical Consensus Guideline on Neuromodulation
I am also pleased to announce that the AAPM Foundation is developing a new clinical consensus guideline:
Neuromuscular Restoration of Function and Pain Using Neurostimulation, Peripheral Nerve Stimulation, and Brain-Computer Interface Technologies: An AAPM Expert Consensus Guideline.
With secured funding and opportunities for additional sponsorship, this guideline will provide a comprehensive, evidence-based framework for healthcare professionals, including physicians, physical therapists, payers, and neuromodulation specialists. It will guide the selection, implementation, and optimization of neuromodulation techniques for neuromuscular restoration and pain relief.
I look forward to the incredible advancements we will make together in 2025. Thank you for your continued commitment to improving the lives of patients in pain.
Charles Argoff, MD
