Pain Awareness Month occurs annually every September. 

To help spread awareness of issues related to chronic pain and pain management, we urge members to review and share the Pain Awareness Month resources below with patients and local media.

  • Pain Awareness Month was established in 2001 by the American Chronic Pain Association (ACPA) 
  • More than 80 organizations, both healthcare-related and consumer-focused, came together to support the effort 
  • Nearly 100 million Americans experience chronic pain, amounting to more than those who have diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined according to Johns Hopkins
