AAPM 2024 Corporate Roundtable Participants
The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) held its Corporate Roundtable on March 7, 2024, at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, AZ. Key discussions focused on improving access to pain therapy and educating primary care physicians and the public about pain medicine. AAPM aims to leverage its multidisciplinary approach and respected guidelines to address access advocacy objectives. Strategies include forming coalitions for prior authorization and step therapy issues, enhancing relationships with payers and the FDA, and developing a clinical registry to support pain therapies. The meeting emphasized the need for ongoing collaboration with patient organizations and the American Medical Association (AMA) to advocate for policy changes. The formation of an AAPM Corporate Council was unanimously supported to increase patient access to pain therapies. The next steps involve regular meetings to share data, best practices, and involve payers in the dialogue.
