Study Shows Safety Initiative Decreases Opioid Use in VA Patients with Little Impact on Pain Scores

New research published in Anesthesiology reports that after an Opioid Safety Initiative (OSI) was implemented at the Veterans Health Administration, patients undergoing knee replacement surgery were prescribed significantly less opioids with minimal impact on patients’ reported pain scores.
