After Doctors Cut Their Opioids, Patients Turn to a Risky Treatment for Back Pain

As physicians look to decrease the use of opioids, the use of anti-inflammatory injections for back and neck conditions are gaining popularity. AAPM President Jianguo Cheng, MD PhD, submitted a letter to the editor for possible publication in response to this article, pointing out that the negative characterization of interventional pain procedures risks misleading readers, as it does not represent the professional standards and dedication of the large majority of pain specialists who are dedicated to patient-centered, evidence-based, and compassionate care.
