Dear AAPM Members,

As the annual meeting registration website undergoes final editing prior to opening, it is an honor to announce that Dr. Steven P. Cohen will be a keynote speaker at the 2022 Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dr. Cohen is Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins Hospital and at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He also serves as Director of Pain Research at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Director of the Blaustein Pain Treatment Center and Pain Medicine Division Chief at Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Cohen’s research is internationally recognized and he is the world’s leading expert on the interventional treatment of facet-mediated spine pain.

As an internationally recognized leader in pain medicine, we look forward hearing the most up-to-date information from Dr. Cohen about the interventional treatment of facet-mediated pain.

The Nobel Prize!

Congratulations to David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian on their 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine!

A monumental win for the study of pain! AAPM would like to thank our fellow pain scientists. The two received the 2021 Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch. Their discoveries will be vital to the development of treatments for chronic pain and other conditions.

Dear AAPM Members,

On behalf of the Annual Meeting Planning Committee, it is an honor to announce that Dr. Lee Fleisher will be a keynote speaker at the 2022 Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dr. Fleisher was named Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in July 2020. He is a practicing anesthesiologist and is currently Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. From 2004 through July 2020, he was the Robert D. Dripps Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania.

In his leadership role at CMS, he is responsible for executing national quality and safety standards for healthcare facilities and providers and establishing coverage determinations for services that improve health outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries.

As a practicing clinician and CMS leader, we look forward to hearing Dr. Fleisher’s unique perspective about how current and future policy initiatives could influence the practice of pain medicine.
