2019 AAPM Annual Meeting Continuing Education Information
The AAPM 35th Annual Meeting & Preconferences took place March 6-10, 2019, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO. Thank you to everyone who participated. Who Should Attend?
Clinicians treating patients in pain are invited to join leading experts in pain medicine at AAPM35. The program has been designed by a multidisciplinary, multimodal committee of experts at the forefront of pain medicine practice. It is designed for a primary audience of physicians whose scope of practice is targeted at the multidisciplinary practice of pain medicine and nonphysician healthcare clinicians, including nursemedis, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, psychologists, and pharmacists who are part of the multidisciplinary pain management team.
Objectives and Desired Outcomes
After attending the meeting, participants should be better able to
- Describe to pain medicine clinicians the recent advancements in research, clinical best practices, patient management, practice management, and the diagnosis and treatment of patients in pain
- Assess, treat, and improve outcomes for patients suffering from multiple types of pain through the use of evidence-based integrative/multidisciplinary pain management strategies and patient-centered treatment plans
- Improve patient safety and decrease the rate of opioid- and pain analgesic–related adverse events.
The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.

AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from accredited organizations, including AAPM.
American Psychological Association (APA)
Select sessions for the AAPM 35th Annual Meeting have been reviewed and approved by the APA Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP) to offer Continuing Education (CE) credit for psychologists. Full attendance was required at each session for which you are claiming APA CE credit. Partial credit is not awarded. The CEP Office maintains responsibility for the delivery of the session. Approval #2019002. If you are claiming APA credits, select “Other Clinician” when completing your evaluation. Full attendance was required at each session for which you are claiming APA CE credit. As an APA credit claimant, you should have had your attendee badge scanned by a door-checker prior to attending or departing each of your education sessions in order for APA to have a record of your attendance at each session in order to issue APA credits. APA issues APA certificates directly. Claimants must also complete and online evaluation prior to receiving credit from APA. A $100 fee to claim APA CE credit will apply. MOCA 2.0® Credits
Participants in the AAPM 35th Annual Meeting, Pain Medicine Best Practices: Integrative Solutions for Critical Challenges Preconference, Opioid and Non-Opioid Medications Management: Filling the Gaps, Prescribing for the Whole Patient Preconference and/or Ultrasound-Guided Acute and Chronic Pain Medicine Interventions Preconference will receive MOCA 2.0® credit after evaluations have been submitted online. AAPM will report participant completion data to the American Board of Anesthesiology via the ACCME’s Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS) on behalf of the participant in a timely manner. Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program® and MOCA 2.0® are registered trademarks of the American Board of Anesthesiology®. This activity contributes to the CME component of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s redesigned Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology™ (MOCA®) program, known as MOCA 2.0®. Please consult the ABA website, theABA.org, for a list of all MOCA 2.0® requirements.
MOC Part II Lifelong Learning
Participants in the AAPM 35 Annual Meeting, Pain Medicine Best Practices: Integrative Solutions for Critical Challenges Preconference, Opioid and Non-Opioid Medications Management: Filling the Gaps, Prescribing for the Whole Patient Preconference and/or Ultrasound-Guided Acute and Chronic Pain Medicine Interventions Preconference will receive ABPMR MOC Part II Lifelong Learning CME credit after evaluations have been submitted online. Participants will need to report these CME credits directly into their ABPMR MOC Homepage.
Evaluation Tool & Claiming CME Credit
Meeting registrants can access the evaluation by visiting the AAPM website at painmed.org/denver and clicking on the evaluation link. Participants will receive their CME certificate only after they submit their evaluations online. Certificates also can be sent to participants' email addresses for printing later or saving electronically. All attendees are encouraged to complete the meeting evaluation by May 31, 2019, regardless of whether they are seeking continuing education credits. It is the policy of AAPM to plan and implement educational activities in accordance with the ACCME to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor. As an ACCME-accredited provider, AAPM may receive commercial support from industry providers but does not receive guidance, either nuanced or direct, on the content of the activity or on who should deliver the content.
As an ACCME-accredited provider, AAPM must demonstrate that everyone who is in a position to control the content of an education activity has disclosed all relevant financial relationships with any commercial interest. Relevant financial relationships are defined as financial relationships with any commercial interests in any amount occurring within the past 12 months that create a conflict of interest. A commercial interest is any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services, used on, or consumed by, patients. Providers of clinical service directly to patients are NOT commercial interests. Employees of commercial interests are ineligible to submit an educational session proposal for consideration.
Financial relationships are those relationships in which the individual benefits by receiving a salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, consulting fee, honoraria for promotional speakers’ bureau, ownership interest (e.g., stocks, stock options or other ownership interest, excluding diversified mutual funds), or other financial benefit. Financial benefits are usually associated with roles such as employment, management position, independent contractor (including contracted research), consulting, speaking and teaching, membership on advisory committees or review panels, board membership, and other activities from which remuneration is received, or expected. Financial relationships of the person involved in the CME activity should also include financial relationships of a spouse or partner. An individual who refuses to disclose relevant financial relationships will be disqualified from being a planning committee member, a teacher, or an author of CME, and cannot have control of, or responsibility for, the development, management, presentation or evaluation of the CME activity. Relevant financial relationships (or a statement of lack thereof) must be disclosed to the learner audience in advance of the activity.
