Medical Ethics in the Practice of Pain Medicine

AAPM endorses the American Medical Association’s Code of Medical Ethics, which guides physicians to meet the ethical challenges of medical practice.

Interactions with Companies

AAPM has signed onto the Council of Medical Specialty Societies’ Code for Interactions with Companies. The purpose of the code is to guide societies in the development of policies and procedures that safeguard the independence of their programs, policies, and advocacy positions.

Accordingly, members of the AAPM Board disclose potential industry and financial conflicts of interest annually and when material changes occur and are expected to rescue themselves from discussions for which they may have a conflict. Further, leaders are asked to divest themselves of any direct financial relationships with industry from the time they take office as president-elect through their term as immediate past president.

Commercial Support

As an ACCME-accredited provider, AAPM follows a policy for all of its commercially supported projects that states that the Academy must make all decisions regarding the disposition and disbursement of the commercial support and ensure that activity planning and implementation are made free of the control of any commercial interest.
