Neuromodulation Therapy Access Coalition (NTAC)
New! Position Statement on Spinal Cord Neurostimulation
The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) has issued a new Joint Position Statement with the Neuromodulation Therapy Access Coalition on the use of Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) for chronic neuropathic pain. Issued in response to concerns that insurance carriers are becoming increasing restrictive in their coverage of neuromodulation therapies, this statement represents an important collaborative effort between AAPM, NANS, ISIS and ASIPP. We hope this statement will benefit AAPM members advocating for SCS as an appropriate therapy for patients with chronic, refractory neuropathic pain. It includes discussion of:
- SCS Effectively Reduces Chronic Neuropathic Pain
- SCS is Broadly Recommended as a Medically Necessary Treatment by Payers
- AAPM is one of several organizations strongly support appropriate access to SCS as a therapy option for properly selected patients with chronic neuropathic pain, encourage payers to ensure such access through their coverage and reimbursement policies, and stand ready as advocates for policies that preserve patient access to this important therapy.
